We are pleased to present you with our technical report, Is Merely Managing Our Stress Enough? This report addresses the topic of stress and how we manage it in our daily lives. We are hoping others will be influenced to consider looking at stress a new way. This report has enabled us to gain further knowledge and a fresh perspective on stress. Many different aspects regarding stress, its effects on the body, how to manage it, and new ways to think of stress are included. There are many different variables to consider regarding stress. Our research has allowed us to address some of these circumstances. Scientist Hans Selye defined stress in the 1930’s. His research is the foundation upon which stress information has been built.†¦show more content†¦We have put a sincere effort toward a presentable document, and making it as informative and articulate as possible. Our study involved three areas of interest. First, defining stress, considering the history and the basic physical process involved when faced with a stressor. Second, we looked at the current methods for managing stress and the positive impacts of such practices. Finally, we considered the newest research about how changing our perception of stress and our perceived control of stress could benefit us with healthier and longer lives. We learned that our body s reaction to stress is biological and automatic and has been a function of our survival for as long as mankind has existed. It is what kept our ancestors alive. Today, it can be what kills us. Current methods for handling stress include managing our body, managing our situation and managing our mind. Managing our body has to do with trying to regulate our response to stressors with practices like meditation, relaxation, and exercise. Managing our situation involves our social support through relationships with our loved ones and friends. It can include religious groups we might belong to or a practice of spirituality that enables us to deal with the stress in our lives. Managing our mind is done through coping mechanisms, some of which are automatic and
